What to do How to do it

Examine computers and shared folders in the local network

  1. Double-click Network Neighborhood
  2. Double-click Entire Network
  3. Double-click Microsoft Network (if available)
  4. Double-click a workgroup
  5. Double-click a computer
  6. Double-click a shared folder or resource

Share the C: drive as read only

  1. Open Windows Explorer and click the + next to My Computer, or just double-click My Computer
  2. Right-click C: and click Sharing
  3. Select Shared As
  4. Make sure Read Only is selected for the Access Type
  5. Click OK

Share the My Documents folder as read-write

  1. Open Windows Explorer
  2. Right-click My Documents and click Sharing
  3. Select Shared As
  4. Select Full for the Access Type
  5. Click OK

View the Uganda Martyrs University web site

  1. Type in the URL http://www.umu.ac.ug/ and press Enter
  2. Click on

  1. Open Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator
  2. Type in the URL http://home.umu.ac.ug/ and press Enter

  1. Click the UMU Library link
  2. Click the Internet Links link

View the list of topics in Yahoo

  1. Type in the URL http://www.yahoo.com and press Enter
  2. Click on the Computers and Internet topic

Search Yahoo for "Management Information Systems"

  1. Type "Management Information Systems" (including quotes) in the Search box and press Enter

Log on to your preferred e-mail account

  1. If you do not yet have any e-mail account, you can create one; please ask someone to help you
  2. Open Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator
  3. Type in the URL (www.yahoo.com, www.hotmail.com, www.yahoo.co.uk, www.yahoo.fr, etc.) or go to the UMU intranet site
  4. Type in your username and password

Read your new mail

  1. Click the Inbox or Check E-mail button or link
  2. Click an unread message

Send your instructor a question

  1. Click the Compose or New Message button
  2. In the To: box, type the instructor's UMU e-mail address
  3. In the Subject: box, type "MIS I Exercise 2: question"
  4. In the Message: box, type one course-related question
  5. Click the Send button
