Bukoba #4: ups and downs
May 13, 2001
Computer classes went a bit better this week; I taught HTML and a little JavaScript programming.
I forgot to lock the office while I was in class one evening, and someone stole about $250 from the bursar's drawer. I hadn't realized that the university would keep money in a drawer in the office; they don't have a safe. I wanted to pay because I felt it was my fault, but the university wouldn't let me and made the bursar pay. It seemed unfair for someone else to pay for my mistake, but they didn't see it that way.
I went jogging this morning for the first time. I felt very out of shape, but now the blood seems to flow better. I didn't get many comments besides friendly hellos from bicyclists and children, and I didn't hear any laughter, so I assume I didn't break any taboos. I still haven't found a fully balanced diet, though I cooked steak, fish, eggs, etc.
I have finally uploaded two small pictures of Bukoba (the university and my house) and the view of the lake from Ihungo secondary school, and some other documents to http://gvogl.tripod.com/bukoba/. I think FTP from DOS is slower than a Windows FTP program would be.
